Social Security review will take two years

Deputy Susie Pinel discussed the review’s timeframe while responding to a question from Deputy Geoff Southern regarding the wording used in questions contained in a recent survey undertaken for the department’s report, Living Longer Thinking Ahead.

He was concerned that the words ‘tighten benefit rules’ – used in one question in particular – could be used as justification for changing benefits payments.

Deputy Pinel said that the survey – the findings of which will be used to determine Islanders’ public pension and benefit payments needs for the next 30 years – was launched last October and was due to be completed in late 2018.
