Hearts go out to bomb victims in Manchester

Flags across the Island were also flown at half-mast yesterday as a mark of respect to those who died or were injured while leaving US pop star’s Ariana Grande’s concert on Monday evening.

At least 22 people – including children – died in the terrorist attack, while more than 120 were injured. The Islamic State terror group have claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Yesterday, senior States police officers held an emergency meeting and in a statement said: ‘We continue daily communications with our UK counterparts via our Special Branch capabilities, and whilst there is no intelligence to suggest that Jersey is under any threat, we remain vigilant under the circumstances.’

Islander Lauren Carré, who is the fundraising and marketing manager for Les Amis, had been in the Manchester Arena the evening before the bombing watching a Take That concert.

She said: ‘My heart goes out to all the people that have been affected by this tragedy. It’s extremely upsetting that this happened at a children’s concert and young people and families have become victims of the attack.

‘Having been in that arena for the previous three nights I can only imagine the pandemonium and panic that must have ensued inside.

‘It makes you realise how fortunate we are to live in such a safe island.’
