Cracks begin to appear in Council of Ministers

Treasury Minister Alan Maclean admitted that one of the reasons he withdrew the debate on funding for the £466 million hospital was ‘differing opinions’ within both the Council of Ministers and the States Assembly. The debate was delayed at the last minute yesterday until autumn, having already had been pushed back three times previously.

The delay comes as rumours continue to circulate about a potential vote of no confidence in Chief Minister Ian Gorst with the Council of Ministers seemingly in disarray with less than a year until the next election.

Divisions are also apparent over the potential return to frontline politics of Senator Philip Ozouf, who resigned as Assistant Chief Minister in the wake of a highly critical report on the Jersey Innovation Fund.
