RNLI coxwain appeal will be conducted in ‘fair and proper manner’

Last week Mike Jackson accompanied Mr Hibbs to a meeting with a representative from the RNLI as part of a process to challenge the decision to sack the experienced lifeboatman.

It has now been over a month since the crew walked out in protest over Mr Hibbs’ sacking, with all 25 members vowing not to return to their posts until he is reinstated.

Mr Jackson said: ‘It was a policy appeal meeting which was held to allow Andy to challenge his dismissal and was done by a person who seemed very straight down the line and she gave me the confidence that the appeal was going to be carried out in a fair and proper manner.

He added: ‘Andy and I were both quite shell-shocked, he was able to explain his position and his point of view and she expressed the views of the RNLI.’

Mr Jackson said that he expected that a decision would be made during the first two weeks of June.
