Ozouf hints at desire to return to frontline politics

In his first interview since being ‘exonerated’ by the Chief Minister for his part in the Jersey Innovation Fund fiasco, Senator Ozouf has described the personal impact of the fallout from the highly critical report into the fund by Comptroller and Auditor General Karen McConnell as ‘horrific’.

In the wake of that report – which concluded that about £1.4 million of public money may never be recovered – the Senator, under whose remit the fund fell, resigned as an Assistant Chief Minister with responsibility for financial services, digital, competition and innovation.

He has now called for lessons to be learnt from the failure of the fund and the political turmoil that led to it.

In an interview in Saturday’s JEP, Senator Ozouf has hinted that, with a long list of work still to do in the key areas that used to be under his remit, particularly as a champion for the Island’s financial services industry, he would be open to a return to the Council of Ministers if invited back.
