Boardroom diversity ‘essential’, says award winner

Charlotte Valeur, the founder of Board Apprentice, was one of five directors singled out for recognition last week at the annual gala dinner at the Hotel de France.

Ms Valeur, managing director of governance consultancy GFG Ltd, has over 30 years of experience in investment banking. She is currently a non-executive director of JP Morgan Global Convertibles Income Fund Ltd and NTR plc and chairs Kennedy Wilson Europe Real Estate plc, Blackstone/GSO Loan Financing Ltd and DW Catalyst Ltd.

She set up Board Apprentice – a scheme to recruit and train potential directors from diverse backgrounds – to provide the skills required in today’s digital and disruptive environment.

Commenting on her award, Ms Valeur said: ‘Board Apprentice has taken off so rapidly, globally, and it is a real honour to be presented with this award. It is real team work that has enabled us to grow so quickly.

‘Boards globally need to be able to see with many different eyes. Companies cannot afford not to see all opportunities and risks in a rapidly evolving world. Diversity of ethnicity, age, gender, skills and background is key for companies to thrive.’
