New helpline for sex assault victims

The Island’s first sexual assault referral centre (SARC), known as Dewberry House, on Route du Fort, will provide 24-hour support and forensic examinations for both child and adult victims.

It was officially opened by the Home Affairs Minister Kristina Moore and Health Minister Andrew Green in front of members of charities such as Jersey Action Against Rape and the Women’s Refuge, the Attorney General, senior police officers and members of the Probation Service.

Deputy Moore said it was ‘a big step’ for Jersey and vitally important that victims now had an independent service they could access. Victims of recent or historical assaults can self refer to Dewberry House or be referred by an agency and they do not have to engage with the police or make a formal complaint.

To contact Dewberry House call 888222 or email dewberryhouse@gov.je. For more information visit dewberryhouse.je.
