Top civil servant to retire… with a £2.6m pension pot

Chief executive John Richardson is due to retire next year after 35 years working for the States of Jersey. He was the first Jersey-born civil servant to hold the post.

An advert to find his successor was issued on Wednesday, with applicants invited to apply by 31 May.

According to the States accounts, Mr Richardson is the Island’s highest paid accounting officer, earning around £210,000 a year. In 2015 he had a pension pot worth £2,567,000.

The job advert does not include reference to a salary, but describes the position as the ‘most rewarding job in Jersey’.

It adds: ‘This is a unique opportunity to stand at the forefront of public service delivery. To oversee significant transformation, spearhead our ambitious capital programme, and help position the Island on an international stage during exciting and challenging times.’
