Boat Show a big draw – whatever the weather

Thousands turned out for the tenth annual event which showcased super yachts worth millions of pounds as well as luxury power boats and RIBs.

But one of the expected stars of the show, the Royal Navy’s HMS Mersey, was forced to withdraw from the event at the last minute due to operational reasons.

And due to the heavy rain and strong winds yesterday the Sea Sunday Service and the Governor’s Cadet inspection, which had been due to take place in Weighbridge Place, were cancelled.

The wet weather was expected to continue into today – in contrast to the sunny weather enjoyed by show-goers on Saturday.

The free three-day event, which ends today, was expected to attract more than 30,000 people.
