Struggling parents to get help with everyday tasks

Five family support workers are to be appointed later this year to work with families in their homes to assist struggling parents with everyday tasks.

Teachers, nurses and health-care professionals can refer parents to the scheme who they think may need additional support.

The £473,600 for staff wages for the next three years was agreed by the States in the Medium Term Financial Plan.

The Education Department said that the new staff will be able to help with things such as budgeting, time management, nutrition and cookery and dealing with States departments.

Cliff Chipperfield, director of inclusion and family support, said: ‘It might be something relatively minor that families are struggling with. It could be an issue of time-keeping for example – we might have an issue of a child not getting to school on time.’
