Pedestrian bridge to link two schools?

Jersey College for Girls principal Carl Howarth revealed the proposal last week at a meeting with local residents to discuss plans for new sporting and educational facilities in a nearby field.

He told attendees, who raised concerns about the level of traffic in the area, that the school was considering building a bridge across Claremont Road, which runs between the senior and prep schools, to improve road safety.

‘We are concerned about the safety of our students as they cross Claremont Road,’ he said. ‘It is a narrow, two-way road which is a rat run that people come too fast down, so we are exploring ways our students can have safe transit between the two halves of the campus.’

Having looked at a range of options and discussed road calming measures with the parish of St Saviour, Mr Howarth said they have concluded that a bridge spanning the road was the best option.
