Fire crews tackle woodland blaze

Firefighters were called out on Friday afternoon after Islanders reported that a large fire was spreading through the trees and shrubs.

The crews quickly brought the fire under control. The Fire and Rescue Service say an area of trees and vegetation measuring 600m² was destroyed.

In a statement, watch commander Andy Gallie said: ‘Whilst the cause of this fire is not known, Jersey Fire and Rescue would like to remind the public that with the lack of recent rainfall, areas of scrubland and furze are likely to be tinder dry.

‘Please take care when disposing of cigarettes, throwaway barbeques or any similar items which could start a fire, and use appropriate refuse bins.’
