Ministers call for inquiry into lifeboat cox sacking

On Sunday morning, Senator Paul Routier was handed a letter by the deputy coxswain Tim Gavey, before hundreds of Islanders who took part in a protest around the lifeboat station on the Albert Pier, requesting political support.

The entire 25-strong crew walked out on Thursday over the dismissal of coxswain Andy Hibbs, who claims he has been bullied by RNLI managers. The charity asked him to stand down last week, after 25 years’ service, for ‘breaches of the RNLI’s volunteer code of conduct’.

The assistant chief minister said that he had the backing of Chief Minister Ian Gorst who was not happy with the way the UK charity had dealt with the matter.
