St Helier lifeboats out of service after whole crew resign

In a statement, a spokesman for the RNLI said that the decision to dismiss coxswain Andy Hibbs, who has served with the charity for 25 years, was not taken ‘lightly’.

The statement said: ‘We are working hard to bring in extra support and put the St Helier all-weather lifeboat back on service in the next couple of days. In the meantime, we are working with our colleagues across the emergency services to provide an effective maritime rescue service. Out of respect to all those involved in this confidential process we cannot go into more detail.’

The RNLI has since declared the St Helier station out of service.
