Rapist who held woman captive for years was brought up in Guernsey

Keith Baker (61) raped his victim in Northern Ireland during an ordeal lasting at least six years while controlling the behaviour of his wife and another partner through a ‘willingness to resort to violence and total immorality’.

The victim was kept as an ‘invisible’ prisoner in a room at their home in Craigavon, Co Armagh, with no light bulb and no door handle on the inside.

The toilet was overflowing with human excrement. And she was so badly emaciated that most of her teeth had to be removed when she was rescued by police in 2012 after Baker’s second partner raised the alarm.

Craigavon Crown Court heard this week how Baker was raised in Guernsey but spent most of his life in Kent.

His wife Caroline (54), who he met when they both worked for the Salvation Army, was sentenced to three years in prison, half to be served in the community on licence.
