St Helier murder suspect to be questioned by detectives

The woman, who has not been named by the police, was found dead at number ten Victoria Street just before 11 am on Tuesday.

A 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in the afternoon and kept in custody overnight. A police spokeswoman confirmed the man was 58 and not 57 as the force had originally said.

In a short statement, the spokeswoman added that a UK Home Office pathologist was due in the Island on Wednesday to conduct a post-mortem examination to try to establish the cause of death.

The spokeswoman said: ‘Following the death of a woman yesterday, a 58-year-old man remains in police custody and will be further questioned today.

‘A Home Office pathologist is coming to the island today to undertake a post mortem and to establish the cause of death.

‘The property in Victoria Street, St Helier where the victim was found remains secured and will be subject to further forensic examination.

‘Inquiries are on-going in order to establish the last known movements of the deceased, whose identity we hope to be able to confirm later today.’
