Town homes plan may need redesign

Under the current plans, which have been approved by the Planning Department, a patch of green space between the low-rise flats at La Collette and Green Street would be lost and instead a courtyard area would be created in the middle of the proposed 147-property development.

However, St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft wants Andium, which administers social housing on behalf of the States, to protect the public green space.

And he has now lodged a proposition which, if approved by Members, would force Treasury Minister Alan Maclean to request that Andium maintain the current space and trees on the site.

The development has caused a rift in the States with an earlier proposition from Deputy Russell Labey to save the space being supported by 22 votes to 19.

Despite this, the proposals were submitted by Andium and the development was given the go-ahead by the Planning Department.

The proposition is due to be debated on Tuesday 2 May.
