Price of milk to go up

As retailers were informed of the dairy’s decision to increase its wholesale price by 4p per litre only today, it is too early to say what price increase will be passed on to consumers. The price of yoghurt, ice cream and butter is also expected to rise.

The dairy says the increases are due to the pound’s poor performance against the euro, resulting in increased manufacturing costs.

Following the announcement, the Jersey Consumer Council has called on the Council of Ministers to step in to mitigate the effects of higher dairy prices by removing GST from milk and other basic foodstuffs.
