Constable expects resistance over developer’s bid to buy care home

The firm has had a bid of £1.875 million for the Maison de Ville building, which closed as a care home in 2014, accepted by the parish subject to approval at tonight’s meeting.

St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft has urged parishioners to back the sale of the land, and said the money would be invested in other care homes and nurseries in St Helier.

However, he added that he is expecting strong opposition at the meeting from nearby residents. Previously, St Helier had plans for an £11 million redevelopment of the site rejected by the Parish Assembly and Planning.

The project would have involved knocking down the home and building 29 retirement apartments for the over-55s along with a new 60-place nursery, which would have replaced Avranches Day Nursery on Trinity Hill.
