Hacking ‘biggest risk’ to eGov

During a Public Accounts Committee hearing yesterday, John Richardson admitted that the States were struggling to keep up with the speed at which cyber-attacks were developing and added that this could jeopardise the eGov initiative.

The project aims to create a ‘people register’ (a register of every Islander) and a unique digital ID for every Islander, which will enable the public to access a variety of States services, such as their tax and health records, through an online portal. It is also hoped it will possible to centralise States data records on a single database, replacing the separate systems which are used by the different departments at present.

Mr Richardson provided the committee with an update on the project yesterday, during which he was asked what he perceived to be the biggest threat to its delivery.
