Two drivers banned for holding mobiles

A Jersey Gas engineer was disqualified from driving for two months and fined £400, while a self-employed cleaner, was given a two-week ban and fined £150.

The 27 year old, who has worked for Jersey Gas for eight years, was spotted by a police officer on Route de St Aubin using a mobile phone as he headed from First Tower towards town.

His white Renault Traffic van was stopped near West Park and when questioned he said that it had been his work calling him.

In the second case, an officer spotted the cleaner with the phone in her hand at 8.05 pm on 2 February driving along the Weighbridge towards the Pomme d’Or Hotel.

The officer stopped her car a few minutes later near Romerils in Dumaresq Street, and when questioned she said: ‘I was looking at the time. I was not calling.’
