Café and healing room at St Matthew’s Glass Church

Judy Cornthwaite and Victoria Slack run the Glass Café and Healing Room in the foyer of the church each Thursday between 10 am and 12 noon, and say that all are welcome.

Coffee and cakes are available in exchange for a donation, and a simple prayer for healing is given should a person request it.

‘We have a very relaxed atmosphere and offer a simple prayer,’ explained Judy, who said that there were a few regular users of the café but that they were hoping that the word would spread.

‘The café has four tables and a kitchenette, so we have facilities for fresh coffee and the preparation of food, and a sofa area,’ she said. ‘It’s not a massive space, but if people want more privacy, we can go into the church.’

Judy, a trained physiotherapist and mother of three young children, and Victoria, who has four children, received training before taking on the job and are assisted by a small team of volunteers who take it in turns to attend each week.

Judy added that everyone was welcome to call in just to enjoy a coffee and chat in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere, and could request a prayer for healing if they wished.
