Red Nose Day fundraisers dig deep for charity

BA staff spent 12 hours bopping along to music with ‘Elvis Presley’ and ‘Swedish pop quartet ABBA’ in the departures terminal of Jersey Airport.

The dance session was also helped by a number of primary school children, as well as an Irish dance troupe.

Lorraine Pih, the Airport manager for airline services, said: ‘This has been a real team effort and we were excited to hold such a major fundraiser on behalf of British Airways in Jersey.’

Meanwhile, Les Quennevais School held talent shows, ‘gunging’ events and a fancy-dress competition to raise money. The fundraising efforts came after staff and pupils were praised nationally, with the school being ranked in the top three in Britain for their Red Nose Day fundraising work.

Elsewhere, Channel Islands jewellery designer Catherine Best and daughter Vikki Freeman spent the day handcuffed together to raise money for the appeal.

Island cake makers also got mixing and frosting in the hope of being crowned star baker, as a number of businesses and organisations held Great British Bake Off-style competitions across Jersey.
