Driver of taxi plays a central role in capture of a car thief

The 22-year-old, of David Place, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court and admitted stealing by finding, drink-driving, driving without a licence or insurance and stealing a bank card from the vehicle.

The court heard that the police were called after a taxi driver became concerned about the manner in which the vehicle – which had been parked by its owner at the Waterfront a few hours earlier – was being driven. He followed it, blocked it in and took the keys from the driver.

The court was told that at 2 am on 6 March the taxi driver noticed the metallic-blue Peugeot being driven without its lights near Woodbine Corner in St Brelade.
