Experienced head for new Care Commission

The commission, which will come into force towards the end of this year, will be responsible for overseeing the care provided to Islanders in their own homes as well as in care homes, children’s homes and adult day care services.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Ian Gorst said that he had notified the States of his intention to appoint Glenn Houston as the first chairman of the independent body.

Mr Houston said that through a programme of independent inspection the Commission would ‘work to assure the public that health and social care services are safe, effective and well led’.
