Alcoholic asked to be arrested so he could get help

Officers were called to the Shelter in Kensington Place at about 11 am on 7 March after staff informed them that the 37-year-old, of no fixed abode, refused to leave after being told he was not welcome.

He was extremely drunk at the time, the Magistrate’s Court heard.

Centenier David Webber said that the defendant asked the officers if he could be arrested, as he needed help with his alcohol problem.
