Mission accomplished!

Ninety-three days after he left Agadir in Morocco, former Jersey Surf School instructor Chris Bertish guided his custom-built £80,000 paddleboard into English Harbour on the Caribbean island of Antigua on Thursday.

In doing so, he covered more than 4,000 miles, paddled more than two million strokes and raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities in Africa.

During his epic journey, the 42-year-old South African battled against 30-foot waves and saw a wide range of marine life, including a great white shark.

He is one of only a few people who have crossed the Atlantic using paddle power alone. In 2014 Alexander Doba, then aged 67, kayaked 5,400 miles from Portugal to Florida, and in 2001 Peter Bray kayaked from Ireland to Newfoundland, Canada.
