Moped owner who rode without licence for 20 years banned

The 49-year-old, of Route de St Jean, St Lawrence, also admitted charges of driving without insurance and making false declarations to an insurance company going back to 2009.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that the Jersey Electricity employee was stopped on Grande Route de St Jean outside Motor Mall on the night of Tuesday 20 December by a police officer conducting checks as part of the Christmas drink-driving campaign.

Centenier Peter Garrett said that the moped was stopped at 11.30 pm and that the defendant was asked to produce his licence but he had said that it was at his father’s home and he did not want to wake him.

Advocate Robin Leeuwenburg, defending, said that his client had immediately admitted his guilt, had no previous convictions and had actually purchased insurance.
