Change of plan on flats ‘not in public interest’

Andium Homes say that they have already started to relocate residents to new properties in order to begin work on the project, which was granted planning approval following an independent planning inspector’s review.

The scheme proved controversial after it was unveiled last year, with St Helier Deputy Russell Labey leading efforts to safeguard a patch of green space at the site, which some residents in the area feel should be protected.

Those efforts had little impact, but this week parishioners voted 28–3 in favour of Constable Simon Crowcroft lodging a proposition with the States to ask Treasury Minister Alan Maclean to force Andium to revise the plans.

Andium chief executive Ian Gallichan said that the organisation had already spent £500,000 on the project and that he could not ‘see that any further delay in delivering these much-needed new homes could possibly be in the public’s interest’.
