Bad drivers more likely to be caught on camera

Sentencing three speeding motorists who were caught on a dashboard camera earlier this year, Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris said the increased popularity of the devices, which film the road when a car is in motion, ‘can only add to the police’s ability to prosecute’.

Now Philip Blake, the Island’s road safety officer, who has a camera on his car and bicycle, said: ‘I think it can be helpful for motorists to know that they may be being filmed on the roads wherever they are.

‘If there is an example of road rage, or someone is doing something stupid, or they are involved in an accident, there is a good chance they will be caught on camera – not necessarily CCTV but dashboard cameras.

That footage, as shown in court recently, can then be used for a prosecution.
