Daffodil growers send little rays of happiness to France

Every year, on the first Sunday in March, the French celebrate La Fête des Grands-Mères. It is a national day when everyone honours grandmothers, and all women over the age of 55, by presenting them with a bunch of daffodils.

Over the past two weeks the Island’s daffodil growers have been working hard to meet the increased demand which arrives with spring.

Charlie Gallichan, of the Island’s biggest daffodil grower, Woodside Farms, which exports to the UK, Europe and America, said: ‘We have had a very busy two-week period but we are now coming to the end of the peak of the season.
