Civil servants asked to end their membership of illegal lifts services

In a week when the chairman of the Jersey Taxi Drivers Association called for Islanders operating illegal taxi services via the group to have their vehicles impounded, the Judicial Greffe and Viscount’s Department confirmed that they had taken the unusual step of emailing all staff about the group.

Employees who belong to the group, which is used to advertise and find illegal lifts, have now been asked to leave, because the group’s regulatory status is ‘unresolved’.

A spokesman for the States said that the notice was limited to the two departments and had not been sent to other public-sector employees. And Judicial Greffier Paul Matthews said that it was a request to staff, not an order.
