Hob fire warning after bedsit blaze

Firefighters were called to the incident in Dunell Road at 2.15 pm after neighbours saw smoke and raised the alarm.

The cause of the fire turned out to be an unattended saucepan left on a cooker hob, which the occupier thought had been turned off.

The fire was contained to the pan but had caused a significant amount of smoke.

Watch Commander Andy Gallie said: ‘Switching cooking appliances off at the plug, when not in use, is the best way to avoid this type of fire.’
