More help for new businesses needed

Tony Moretta said that although the Jersey Innovation Fund – which has been frozen following a damning report by Comptroller and Auditor General Karen McConnell and is now the subject of a police investigation – had not worked, he hoped there would be a ‘next phase’ to support local start-ups.

His comments come days after Rupert Langley-Smith, who co-founded Proviz Ltd – one of the companies to have received a JIF loan – said that the fallout from the Innovation Fund fiasco should be treated as an opportunity for Jersey to think creatively about how it can support start-up companies.

And in today’s Saturday Interview another loan recipient, Catherine Curtis of Babyhub Ltd, has told how the fund helped her to develop an award-winning travel cot which is now being stocked in Co-op Homemaker and being marketed around the world.
