Report proposes 15% pay rise for the Chief Minister

A report by the States Members’ Remuneration Review Body has concluded that the Island’s most senior politician should be given a 15 per cent pay rise from 2018, while other Members’ salaries should be kept at £46,600 a year.

However, the Chief Minister’s salary would only be increased if the States agreed to remove a law which blocks the grading of Members’ pay. If no such plans were passed, his salary, along with those of all other politicians, would be frozen from 2018 to 2022.

The recommendations follow a public survey last year which was completed by 563 Islanders. It found that 54 per cent of those who responded felt that States Members’ pay was too high. Two out of three respondents felt politicians’ pay should vary depending on their responsibilities.
