The 26-year-old who had trials with Manchester United at the age of nine, left his victim with a broken nose as well as deep cuts which may cause permanent scarring.
The Magistrate’s Court heard that the man now needs an operation to fix a displaced bone in his nose which has affected his breathing.
The defendant admitted grave and criminal assault and was sentenced to 180 hours of community service and ordered to pay his victim £3,000 in compensation.
He was also banned from licensed premises for 18 months.
