Refugees to tell their stories in local theatre production

The men’s accounts will form part of Home, a play by Love Theatre, which looks at the Island’s response to the international issue.

Today, Michelle Smith and Alex Mackenzie-Johns, co-producers of the show, have urged States Members to attend the two-part drama which she hopes could then result in political discussions about what Jersey could do to help.

The production will include interviews from Islanders about their views on the crisis as well as stories told first-hand by three former refugees, from Syria, Turkey and Iraq, who have recently been granted residency in the Netherlands.

Mrs Mackenzie-Johns said that Jersey is not doing enough to support those currently living in refugee camps across the world.

Her idea for the performance came after she visited the Calais ‘jungle’.
