Islander to pay for Mongolian boy’s care

The anonymous donor has agreed to pay about £40 a month to treat Mongonhundag – a four-year-old boy who is blind and suffers from cerebral palsy – after reading an interview with Jilly Spruyt, who has spent the last decade living in the country supporting some of Mongolia’s most vulnerable people.

A separate donor has also given a one-off £160 donation to the Rainbow Centre – a charity which supports special needs children in the central Asian country’s capital, Ulan Bator. Mongonhundag receives his care at the Rainbow Centre.

The article, which was printed on the JEP’s Adventure page earlier this month, focused on Mrs Spruyt’s continuing work in Mongolia. She was speaking about her company – Mongolia Tours – which offers adventurous trips around the country. A total of 20 per cent of the company’s profits go to charities in Mongolia including the Rainbow Centre.

Speaking from Mongolia, Mrs Spruyt said: ‘Once more the JEP has helped me. Through the article I have found a sponsor for this little man, who is in Rainbow Centre’s care, and also a one-off donation for Christmas for the centre.

‘The little boy is called Mongonhundag. He is four years old. He has a mother but she is very poor. She takes him to the Rainbow Centre daily for his care so she can work. The Mongolian government doesn’t help such children.’
