New plans for property on site of former Shell Garden

The Mont Les Vaux building, which stood for years as a quirky tourist attraction, was due to be revamped under plans that were approved in 2015, but when contractors began the project they found a rotten timber frame that was deemed unsafe.

A decision was taken to knock down the entire property and new planning applications for the site were submitted, but were later withdrawn on the advice of a planning officer.

Site owners Orchid Developments have submitted a new application in which they have proposed building a four-bed home on the land, which lies in St Brelade’s protected green zone.

However, the latest proposals have encountered opposition from several nearby residents, most of whom claim that the proposed road access for the site would create traffic danger on Mont Les Vaux.
