Christmas auction record

Hundreds of people bid against each other on the radio yesterday and online to try to get their hands on over 200 different lots, ranging from a year’s worth of ice cream to a T-shirt signed by Formula One world champions Lewis Hamilton, Niki Lauda and Nico Rosberg.

Among the highest bids made was £2,500 for a weekend in the Minquiers and £4,000 for a day-trip to London on board a private jet.

And one Islander, who entered the Pledge-a-Wedge competition, where smaller donations of around £10 could be made to be in with a chance of claiming a prize, won a one-week holiday in the Maldives.
