Addressing the issue during a lunchtime speech to more than 200 members of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, Mr Crowcroft reminded the audience of architect Eric Kuhne’s designs for three skyscrapers on the Waterfront, which he described as tall but stylish.

During his presentation he compared St Helier to Guernsey’s captial, St Peter Port, and discussed the States decision to preserve the countryside by building in and around town, before taking questions from the audience.
