Cannabis smuggler offers to work with drugs charity

The 29-year-old was found with 30 bars of the class B drug in his suitcase after stepping off a ferry from St Malo on 21 August.

And shortly before he was jailed for 21 months yesterday, his advocate told the Royal Court that the defendant wants to ‘give something back to the community’ when he is released by promoting an anti-drugs message.

Advocate Martin Elks said that the accused, who pleaded guilty to importing a controlled drug, plans to raise funds for a drugs charity and wants his story to be used to deter others from becoming involved in smuggling illegal substances.

The drugs, which weighed a total of 2.93 kg, had a Jersey wholesale value of between £12,000 and £18,000 and a potential street value of between £44,000 and £58,000.
