Deputy Kristina Moore said that she and Assistant Minister Deidre Mezbourian had been ‘overwhelmed’ by the amount of support for Mr Bronx, who faces an uncertain future after the Petty Debts Court ruled that he was a pitbull – a type which is illegal to keep in Jersey without a licence.
The majority of contact has been ‘polite and helpful’, according to Deputy Moore, but she said that some messages had been ‘rather unsavoury’.
Mrs Mezbourian, who has a responsibility for Customs, will make a decision based on evidence from Customs and the Environment Department as to whether to grant the family a licence or order that the dog be destroyed.
