Visit Jersey to exploit new opportunities

Regions now perceived to be unsafe in the wake of terror attacks, economic uncertainty and rising prices at traditional destinations such as Spain and Portugal have presented promoters with an opportunity to capture new interest as holidaymakers think carefully about where to travel.

Visit Jersey, who yesterday outlined the next stage of its long-term strategy to boost visitor numbers in the coming decade to members of the tourism industry at a seminar at the Hotel de France, said it was now targeting groups that may never have considered visiting the Island before.

The 50 or so representatives from the hospitality, leisure, attractions and events sectors were given an insight into the 2017 business plan, which has yet to be seen by Economic Development Minister Lyndon Farnham.

Visit Jersey chief executive Keith Beecham said that following months of detailed research and evaluation of what the Island had to offer, his team were now ready to exploit new opportunities being created as a range of shifting factors continued to make people reconsider where they went on holiday.
