‘Future of Jersey’ vision a waste of time, says Deputy

Deputy Sam Mézec, of Reform Jersey, has criticised the Jersey Vision project following an update from ministers earlier this week about what feedback had been received about life in the Island and people’s hopes for the future.

The public’s comments – from more than 4,000 respondents – were positive about many topics, such as efforts to protect Jersey’s coast and countryside and the work done by the uniformed services, but negative feedback was given when it came to the provision of quality homes, the Island’s tax system and residents’ ability to achieve a decent standard of living.

Ministers, meanwhile, have hailed the work as a key step in providing thematic continuity between successive governments.

They say that the Jersey Vision – due to be agreed by next summer – will provide a guide when leaders set strategy and policy.
