Ministers play down migration reports

Bloomberg published an article on its website yesterday titled ‘Tiny Isle Near France Offers UK Post-Brexit Migration Ideas’ which featured comments from Assistant Chief Minister Philip Ozouf, Senator Paul Routier – who is responsible for Jersey’s population policy – and David Walwyn, the director of the External Relations Department.

The article, written by former De La Salle student Joe Mayes, quotes Senator Ozouf as saying that the UK is ‘absolutely’ interested in Jersey’s migration policy. It goes on to describe how Jersey controls migration through the use of work licences and housing and welfare restrictions.

Senator Ozouf said yesterday that the Island did not give advice to the UK government.
