An exhibition is being held at the Town Hall this week as part of a project for a new war memorial for St Helier which will be unveiled on the centenary of the end of the Great War in November 2018.

St Helier is the only parish not to have a consolidated First World War memorial to those men who lost their lives in action between 1914 and 1918.

Constable Simon Crowcroft said: ‘Ian Ronayne is to be commended for producing such a detailed report on the men from St Helier who lost their lives during the First World War, but it is vitally important that we ensure that the records are correct. I would urge anybody who thinks they may have a relative or distant family member who lived in the parish and saw active service during the war to visit the Town Hall and review the roll of honour.’

The parish is also asking Islanders who have letters or postcards sent home from the trenches by soldiers to contact the Town Hall as it is hoped that first-hand testimony can be included in the memorial.

The exhibition at the Town Hall will be open from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm until Friday.
