Mental health issues in two court cases

In separate incidents, a woman who turned up at St Saviour’s Hospital seeking help because she was feeling suicidal was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, and a man who went to police headquarters at Rouge Bouillon because he wanted access to mental health services caused damage to a police car and assaulted an officer so that he would be arrested and given access to a detox programme.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that the woman defendant of Little Sunshine Avenue, St Saviour, went to St Saviour’s Hospital and told staff that she was very low and was considering driving off the cliff at Noirmont. The hospital staff called the police to inform them they believed she had been intoxicated while behind the wheel.

In a separate incident, a man, of no fixed address, who wanted help to deal with his alcohol and mental health problems deliberately damaged the bonnet of a police car so that he would arrested and given access to a detox programme, the court heard.
