‘We hope the cruel rumours about Ady can be laid to rest’

The disappearance of the 20-year-old, who vanished after a Christmas party on the night of 4 December, touched the hearts of Islanders, with hundreds volunteering to take part in searches.

But it also sparked numerous rumours on web forums, including theories that Mr Lynch had left the Island or had been the victim of a crime which had been covered up.

He was later found in Handois Reservoir by Jersey Water staff on 4 August – exactly eight months after he vanished – just a short distance from where he was last seen.

Deputy Viscount Advocate Mark Harris yesterday recorded a verdict that the cause of Mr Lynch’s death was ‘unascertained’. Before delivering the verdict he said that there were no suspicious circumstances.
