Tax junk-food pushers

Consultant gynaecologist Dr Neil MacLachlan has called for a bold new stance on fatty food offers to raise public health awareness after Belgian scientists discovered a strong link between a mother’s Body Mass Index, a measure of body fat, and the health of their unborn baby.

Now, Dr MacLachlan has said that the States need to consider cracking down on supermarkets selling discounted junk food.

The comments come just weeks after States Members rejected the decision to introduce a health charge, leaving the Health Department with a £15-million-a-year shortfall by 2019.
